BE YOUR HORSES GUIDE RUNNER
I have linked below an article from the BBC that describes athletic runners in India who are blind and compete with a guide runner.
A guide runner is a person who runs with the blind athlete to ensure they keep within their lane, don’t collide with a competitor, and keep them aware of how the race is progressing and their performance.
I urge you to read the BBC article before reading further. It’s not very long.
When I read “Competition rules mean they can't hold hands - they can only be connected by the tether, and the guide-runner is not allowed to push, pull or otherwise propel the visually impaired athlete,” I thought about the relationship between a rider and their horse.
How many of us have a relationship with our horse where we would pass the test of being our horse’s guide runner?
