WHAT DISTINGUISHES A TRUE HORSE PERSON?

Back in July, I wrote a post about what I believe are the qualities that make a true horse person. I listed several assets a person should possess such as being smart, emotionless, confident, etc.

However, since then I’ve thought a little more about it. I have realised I left out perhaps the most important characteristic distinguishing a talented horse person from a true horse person.

I believe a true horse person is not just somebody with lots of skills. A true horse person is somebody who works hard and strives to be better tomorrow than they were yesterday irrespective of how skilled they are.

If this is true, it means we all have the potential to be true horse people no matter how much natural talent or time we have to commit to our horsemanship. If we strive to be better each time we are with our horses, we are true horse people. The choice is ours.

This is Michèle Jedlicka. One of the finest true horse people I know. Michèle and her horse, Birch are teaching Chloe the basics of following a feel.
